About this lesson

Did you know that it can take 6 months or more to find an internship or a job? That’s a long time! In this lesson, you’ll learn why it takes so long to find a job and how you can be strategic in your job search. Dr. Wood will also help you think strategically and develop a plan if you haven’t started your job search yet.

Worksheet Activities

Download the worksheet for this lesson, or complete these activities using the Take Notes widget.

1. Make a budget of your fixed expenses. How much money do you need to cover your bills after you graduate?

2. Take 30 minutes to start mapping out a “plan B.” What options are available to you as a domestic or international student? Identify two people who you trust to discuss your backup plan. Reach out to them to schedule a time to chat.

3. Identify on-campus resources that can help you find opportunities. What support is there for master’s students through your career center, alumni office, or office of international students and scholars?
