About this lesson

If you’re watching this lesson, then you know that you need to network. But how can you make sure that you’re networking effectively and strategically? In this lesson, you’ll learn the biggest mistakes people make when networking and how to avoid them.

Worksheet Activities

Download the worksheet for this lesson, or complete these activities using the Take Notes widget.

1. Reflect on your current networking strategy: is it authentic or transactional? What might you need to change about your current strategy to be more successful?

2. Networking is more than just getting referrals for jobs. It’s about gathering the information you need to move forward in your job search. List 4 questions you have that you think professionals working in your career field of interest could help you answer.

3. To make a plan, you need a network. Set aside 4 blocks of time in the next two weeks where you can start researching companies of interest and identifying alumni who work at those companies. Each time block should be at least 30 minutes. Don’t forget to schedule it in your calendar and set a reminder!
